The School Day
Life at Felixstowe International College follows a calm, purposeful rhythm. As a family school with small class sizes, every student is known well, every lesson counts, and the day balances focused academic study with time to relax, exercise and be together.
Our school week begins with a whole-school assembly and each day runs through up to seven one-hour lessons, with a morning break, a proper lunch break and a short afternoon pause. Younger students finish earlier in the afternoon, while GCSE, A Level and Foundation students continue into the later lessons. For boarders, the day flows naturally into prep and evening life in the boarding houses.

Inside the Classroom
With typical class sizes of around eight, our teachers know exactly where each student is in their learning. Students are taught in Key Stage 3, GCSE and A Level / Foundation groups, and where a student’s subject choices or needs call for it, the timetable is shaped around them. All students have monitored private study sessions, where important independent learning and revision skills are fostered.
Core Subjects and Beyond
Alongside our broad range of core and optional subjects, students benefit from a rich programme of enrichment. Full details of the subjects available at each key stage can be found on our Curriculum pages.
Woven through the week, every student also enjoys:
- PE: at the Brackenbury Sports Centre, with an emphasis on individual physical activities alongside team sports
- Performing Arts and LAMDA: singing, public speaking and dance, with the chance to work towards recognised LAMDA qualifications
- PSHE: developing the personal, social, health and economic understanding that sits behind our values
- Careers education: delivered regularly and linked to the Gatsby Benchmarks, alongside our external speaker programme and community links
- Clubs and enrichment: from STEM and music groups to discussion clubs, community work and language clubs, celebrating the diverse backgrounds and interests of our students.
Recognising Effort Every Day
Throughout the day, staff recognise effort, helpfulness and excellent work with merits, leading to rewards and to recognition at our termly achievement assembly. Our expectations for the school day are set out in our Behaviour Policy, summarised on our Our Values and Behaviour page.
At the end of the day
For day students, the school day ends with clubs or the journey home; for boarders, it continues into supper, prep and the evening programme in the boarding houses – you can read more on our Boarding Life page.
