IGCSE Mathematics

exam board: Pearson edexcel

International GCSE (SpeciFication a)

Our approach:

  • develops fluency in every topic, at a level appropriate for each student;
  • remains flexible, accounting for students’ prior knowledge, needs and progress; and
  • is forward-looking, preparing students with confidence to apply maths in everyday life or in advanced study.

Developing strong mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills is integral to maths teaching at FIC, with students encouraged to make connections between different areas of maths.

Through clear explanation, exploration and patient encouragement, we support every student to excel in and enjoy maths.

Students will develop and apply their knowledge, understanding and skills in: number; ratio and proportion; algebra, functions, graphs and sequences; geometry, vectors, trigonometry and Pythagoras; statistics and probability; and the foundations of calculus.

Students also have the opportunity to extend their studies for the Level 2 Further Maths or Level 3 Additional Maths qualifications.

The exact scheduling of topics below is subject to change, as the small class sizes at FIC allow for the pace and ordering of teaching to be adjusted according to students’ knowledge and progress.
